LED light therapy is a natural process which uses gentle visible Light Emitting to improve the appearance of ageing, sun-damaged and acne-prone skin without causing injury to the skin. The technology of red and blue light therapy has been used medically for many years. Extensive research by NASA, as well as worldwide clinical studies, have shown that we can benefit from exposure to intense red and blue light to treat skin disorders such as fine lines and age spots, as well as acne. The right wavelength of visible red light for skin rejuvenation, stimulates the body’s cells to build new proteins such as collagen and elastin which are responsible for the elasticity and firmness of the skin, while the blue light is known to kill the P.acnes bacteria, one of the causative agents of acne. We at Medix Skincare & Laser Clinic, Melbourne, therefore, use LED therapy as part of our skincare package for teenagers. In clinical studies, blue light has been shown to generate singlet oxygen, which attacks the bacteria that causes acne and helps with skin inflammation. The blue light therapy for acne is an alternative for clients who do not respond well to antibiotic therapy or who develop problematic side effects.
What happens during the treatment?
Medix Skincare and Laser Clinic, Melbourne calibrates the LEDs Light Therapy for Skin to the optimum wavelengths to give you the best possible results. After cleansing your face and applying eye protection, your skin therapist will apply the LED lights to the area to be treated. The red light aids in moisture retention, and generates low-level heat to temporarily increase local blood circulation. The energy delivered by the red light is believed to enhance cellular metabolism and lymphatic system activity, as well as local blood circulation. It will help to smoothen the skin texture, improve skin firmness and reduce the appearance of fine lines and superficial hyper pigmentation by stimulating the skin to produce its own collagen and elastin. As skin is recharged, the old skin with dull spots makes way to the new spotless skin. Red light therapy can be used in conjunction with blue light therapy for acne, since it helps accelerate wound healing by enhancing cellular metabolism and collagen production. This means that it can help to reduce the appearance of acne scarring, and heal the existing acne lesions that have formed under the skin. The blue light hand-piece emits light with a wavelength of around 420nm. It works on acne-inflicted skin by stimulating anti-bacterial activity in the deeper layer of the skin. Blue light treatment for acne is an extraordinary alternative for anybody battling with acne. Porphyrins, compounds generated by the P. acnes bacteria, are photosensitive and react to the blue light (405-440nm). This enables the absorbed light to kill the bacteria. LED Red & blue light acne treatment can be very helpful for acne and is included as part of our skincare package for teenagers. It has proved to be a very successful treatment method for acne when combined with the proper home care products and treatment regimens. It is considered very safe, and there is no need for pharmaceutical drugs. Prior to LED treatment a HydraFacial™ or microdermabrasion is recommended in order to first remove dead skin and debris so that the light is better targeted by the skin tissue and we can achieve a better result.
